My Hands

I have two hands, left and right. They were lovely and clumsy, when they were children. They were good friends.

They were playing together. They were clapping for fun.

Gradually, right hand started to learn to brush tooth.

Right hand started to learn to write and draw.

Right hand started to learn to use chopsticks.

They grew up. Right hand becomes smart and clever.
Left hand was still clumsy.

Right hand was indifferent to left hand. Left hand felt inferior.

Left hand tried to be useful. It worked very hard. It helped hold the cup.

It helped hold the bowl.

It helped hold the book.

Left hand hoped that one day right hand could play together again,
just like when they were children.

One day, the master had a task.
They needed some drawings looking like the children’s work.
Right hand was full of confidence. Soon, a child was drawn out.

But the fluent lines didn’t look like the child’s style.
Right hand worried and began to sweat.
Left hand also worried for right hand.
At this moment,

Left hand was surprised to find that the pencil was put in front of it.
It didn’t know what to do,as it never touched a pencil.

With a bit of tension and bit of joy, left hand started to draw carefully.
Soon, a lovely child was drawn out.

Right hand looked at these clumsy and naïve lines,
Right hand felt sad. It seemed to lose something.

Left hand were very happy and became confident as well.
Right hand looked at left hand thoughtfully and found out left hand was so pure and lovely. Right hand realized this friend never left.

They hugged tightly and felt the familiar warmth.
They said to each other, “I miss you.”
